Tuesday 24 October 2023, Pathum Thani Stadium. BG Pathum United welcomes Kawasaki Frontale on matchday 3 of the AFC Champions League 2023/24. Head coach Thongchai Sukkoki made one change to his back-five defense; Jakkapan Praisuwan replaced Shinnaphat Leeaoh next to Victor Cardozo and Chanapach Buaphan. Waris Choolthong and Wattanakorn Sawatlakorn kept their spot at right and left wingback, respectively. Chatchai Bootprom starts in goal as the captain. Phitiwat Sookjitthammakul and Chanathip Songkrasin come into the team alongside Freddy Alvarez in midfield. Igor Sergeev returns to the striker position with Danilo Alves.
In the 9th minute, Yasuto Wakizaka sped down the right onto a through ball and delivered a quick square pass across BG Pathum United’s box. Daiya Tono shoots from range but Chatchai Bootprom was well positioned to deal with the threat.
In the 14th minute, Daiya Tono strikes from inside the penalty box to make it 1-0 for the visitors. Akihiro Ienaga with the assist after a quick give-and-go sequence of passes down the right channel.
In the 29th minute, Daiya Tono broke past the home defense once again – this time by playing a give-and-go pass with Leandro Damiao. Kawasaki Frontale would have added the second goal of the night if it wasn’t for Chatchai Bootprom’s brilliant reaction save to deny Daiya Tono.
Despite finding themselves in and around the opposition box on numerous occasions, BG Pathum United hardly tested the opposition keeper. Until, out of nowhere, Chanapach Buaphan floats a driven cross straight for Igor Sergeev inside the danger area. With his shirt pulled, Igor Sergeev nudged a header across goal and into the top right corner of the post. A first-half added time equalizer for the Rabbits as both teams entered the break 1-1.
In the 52nd minute, Kento Tachibanada fires a powerful shot from the edge of the area. Chatchai Bootprom got his gloves on the ball but was beaten by the power of the shot. Kawasaki Frontale claims the lead to 2-1 from BG Pathum United’s poor attempt to clear the danger away.
BG Pathum United’s rising attacking pressure was suddenly wiped away in the 68th minute when Marcinho ran past Chanapach Buaphan and Waris Choolthong on the counter. Despite the defender’s best effort, Marcinho manages to get a shot in past Chatchai Bootprom. 3-1 to the Japanese club.
